Karen Ota-O’Brien (Coconut Creek, Florida) is founder of the South Florida Women’s Hockey
Program, the Lucky Pucks Hockey Club and co-founder and current President of the Florida Women's
Hockey League (FWHL). Karen has worked faithfully for almost three decades to establish women’s hockey in
Florida, creating a community where women of all ages and backgrounds feel safe, included and
empowered on and off the ice.
South Florida’s Lucky Pucks Womens’ Ice Hockey Club is made up of women of ages ranging from 18 to 60+ years young.
We are from all professions: school teachers, doctors, police officers to marine biologists, mothers, ship captains to nurses, pilots, corporate lawyers.
We are also of all skill levels from novice beginners to former Division 1 College players.
This year the Lucky Pucks will have 6 Teams: 21+, 30+, 40+ USA National Teams, C, Recreational & Novice Divisions.
We are USA Hockey 40+ National Champions! Winning 4 Silvers and 1 Gold the past 12 years.
Our focus is:
- On the joys of hockey
- The friendships we have made and continue them along the way
- Passing along our knowledge of the game to help a fellow Puck excel
- Having the sense of pride that comes when we set up a fellow Lucky Puck who scores a game winning goal
This is why we play hockey!!
It is the little victories on the ice that keeps us coming back for more....
